Anybody watching the daily show on SBS at 1700? Those guys are lunatics
riding bikes down rough and rutted tracks that they haven't seen before
at 120km/hr, and over huge sand dunes with a 50 degree drop-off of soft
sand. The cars can be pretty spectacular too, last night a Toyota went
over a dune, hit a rock, somersaulted down the slope, landed right side
up a bit worse for wear, and drove on. Then there are the trucks, I
don't know who thought of driving large trucks over sand dunes.

Currently Australians are first and sixth on the bikes.

In my younger days, I worked on geophysical crews. We drove 4x4 or 6x6
trucks over sand dunes, just a track cut by bulldozer a few weeks
before. Generally the trucks were special orders with automatic
transmissions and wide tyres to get over with drivers who probably
didn't have a lot of experience. We took it pretty slow with the large
trucks. But there were idiots in the Landcruisers who used to get
airborne going over. Had a few roll over. Surprisingly no serious
injuries, at least in the crews I worked on.
