I bought a mixed bag of computer stuff at a deceased estate garage sale.
It included one of those V10 coolers, unused in sealed box.
Christ it's huge! 1.2 kg weight. I can't see it fitting in a standard
destop tower case. I reckon you would need one of those server cases
that is 3 foot high and 10 inches wide.

Bloody hell that thing *is* a monster!

Are there any CPUs that need such massive heat dissipation these days?
200W LGA1366 it seems.

Are they actually useful in a home rig?

If you're doing lots of software compiling or video rendering I think so.
Probably not for 99.9% of people.

This is an EPYC which is pretty much like a dual socket Threadripper. It's
rather handy for compiler/OS builds :)

If you are developing number-crunching software, they are useful to
speed up tests. Although some things cannot be run parallel, so I prefer
12 or 16 cores with higher frequency, rather than full 64 core sledgehammer.
