England's 387 doesn't look as good now.
As is common enough in age group cricket there are always a couple of
stand out players on each team and the rest mediocre.

Is George Bell the only cricketer to be named after two pubs?

is anderson the first player to play at a ground or part of, named after himself?
I doubt Viv Richards has played at his antigua stadium since it was only built 2007.

SL 98-5, win by 3 wkts, pretty good for the youngsters far from home.

I don't think so. Largely because I think I noticed another instance
in a recent match in the Caribbean played on an island with not much
history of providing WI players or hosting matches and therefore not
having a lot of names to choose from when naming ends and pavilions.

That's probably woffly enough for David North to either track it down
or prove that I was imagining the whole thing.

Cheers,

Mike

I think you mean Daren Sammy, who has played at the stadium in Gros
Islet, St Lucia since it was renamed after him in 2016, although not in
an international match.

It was named in 1989, shortly before he died, so he wouldn't have played
there during that time.

However, Thomas Lord himself played 43 FC matches at his original ground
at Dorset Fields between 1787 and 1802, and one at the current ground in
1815.

Francis Fenner played f-c at his ground, at least in 1854 and
1855 [I'm too lazy to check earlier, and too mean to pay CA].

I might, but I'm not very confident that it's him because I don't
think I've seen him play this year (although I have heard an awful lot
of him drivelling in commentary boxes).

I am *not* asserting that I *definitely* saw this, but I think I did,
and it was this year. I also think it was a stand named after a
player, not the whole ground.

It is equally possible that this is a confused load of old garbage
such as is normally provided by the village idiot or that there's a
Pieter Seelaar gents loo at Amstelveen (assuming I remember correctly
that England played there 2-3 months ago).

Um. I'll get my coat.

Cheers,

Mike

He played in the 2nd FC match there in 1848, and 7 other FC matches up
to and including the 2 you found.

You may well be right, but I'm drawing a blank. The pavilion at St
George's, Grenada was named after Devon Smith in 2019, but he doesn't
appear to have played there since.

The same applies to Virat Kohli, who had a pavilion named after him at
the Arun Jaitley Stadium (Feroz Shah Kotla Ground) in Delhi, also in 2019.

However, Sachin Tendulkar played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai many
times after a stand there was named after him in 2001.

MS Dhoni played an ODI at Ranchi in 2019 a few weeks after a stand there
was named after him.

The CPL is starting soon, which will probably afford me the
opportunity to confirm either that I was right or that I'm a rambling
old loon.

However, thanks for the research proving that at least the first four
words of my original response were accurate.
