Trueman was not a fast-medium seamer but a genuinely fast bowler although when circumstances called for it he would in his later career effectively bowl fast medium cutters most famously in the 1961 Headingly Test v OZ.

Anderson's Test average is 26
Fred Trueman Test average is 21

A difference of 5 runs a wicket is considerable.

John Snow took his wickets at 26
Bob Willis took hi Test wickets at 25

Even if Anderson's record is compared with RFMs who played for England Anderson's record is inferior to

SJ Barnes' wickets taken at 16
Alec Bedser wickets taken at 24
George Lohman's wickets taken at 10
(Lohmann's astonishing Test average owes something to the early SA Tests , but nonethles less Lohmann took his tally of 77 Ashes Tests wickets at 13.)

Anderson is undoubtedly is a talented bowler but the best ever far from it. RH

The headline says the greatest ever, not the best ever.
Then you invent a super simple comparison to confirm what you have decided before. Your transparency is welcome, even if it is unintentional.
When it is greatest then I think many more people will remember James Anderson in 50 years than people who remember Billy Trueman or Frank Snow.
