England’s fast bowling injury crisis is showing signs of easing with Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Olly Stone all named in squads for the Pakistan Twenty20 tour and the Twenty20 World Cup after missing the entire international summer.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport earlier this week, it was also confirmed that Jason Roy has been dropped for both trips as he paid the price for a poor summer of form.

Wood, Woakes and Stone have not been available for England this summer, leaving the team short of pace, especially with the ongoing absence of Jofra Archer, who is still recovering from a stress fracture in his back.

Wood and Woakes are vital members of the T20 attack and were building their return with the aim of being fit for the tour to Pakistan, which begins 24 hours after the Test series against South Africa ends at the Oval a week on Monday.

Wood has suffered an elbow injury and Woakes a knee problem. Stone played for Warwickshire in the Blast but has not played since a 2nd team game in July. However, he has been named in an expanded 19-man squad for the Pakistan tour with a possible view of returning there for the Test series in December.

Left-arm pace bowlers average 23.28 with an economy rate of 7.49 rpo.
Right-arm pace bowlers average 24.28 with an economy rate of 7.78 rpo.
Left-arm spinners average 22.10 with an economy rate of 6.73 rpo.
Right-arm spinners average 22.23 with an economy rate of 6.99 rpo.

So they generally do a bit better than right-arm pace bowlers.

Thanks for this, but what about strike rates, becos wkt taking is important too?
Its often said that T20 has seen a resurgence in legspin bowlers, but
do the stats support the belief that they are very effective.

Presumably Warne was and I think Rashid was englands most successful
bowler for a time, but are they generally more effective than other spin or
pace bowlers.

i would think probably not, with all this reverse/switch hitting,

Cricinfo stats don't differentiate between different types of right-arm
spin.

pity but the comms must have access to ever more detailed stats
as they are constantly talking about match ups, like this batter
averages X against right arm pace but Y against legspin.
