went on a cruise to Sydney for Australia Day.
Had a great time, I'd never been to Sydney before, and I guess
technically still not, as I never got off the ship.*

Very Photogenic place. https://imgur.com/a/GAKlwuk
1) sunrise, with the Opera house and Bridge
2) New Crown Casino. I thought it looks like a big ezy-out,
but a mate (name and phone available if requested) says
it's known as Packer's Pecker.
3) We missed the fireworks display but got our own on the way home

Half the Royal Aus Navy was there, 1000's of boats and ferries.

* stayed onboard to photograph the RAAF F-35... fucking thing rocked up
right on time at 12.02pm, flew over the bridge once, turned around and
fucked off! Most disappointed. Never mind, Avalon Airshow is on early
March, so i'll probably fly over to that...

Been there quite a few times, nice place to visit and the harbor is
great but wouldn't want to live there, too crowded.

I've lived there for 3 separate periods for a total of 14 years. We
always lived on the northern rim. Two of the houses had an almost
uninterrupted view of the bush. Getting to work could be a hassle, but
no worse than getting into Brisbane, or, I expect, Melbourne in similar
circumstances.

We were there for the Bicentenary Australia Day, we sat by the northern
pylon of the bridge, I reckon that we could have just about have walked
to Circular Quay over the boats.

Possibly, traffic everywhere around the country is hopeless, just happy
I no longer need to commute anywhere.

This will be my second time, well worth it, the display the F22 and the
FA18 Super Hornet put on was worth the ticket price, the rest was a
bonus, hope they are both back this year.
The runway at Avalon has a deep "gully" on either side most likely for
drainage, deep enough that a Pit Special disappeared out of site then
appeared to fly out of the ground, very spectacular.
People complain about the traffic delays getting in and out but we
didn't find it to be too bad.

**Packer's Pecker looks OK. I thought it was going to be horrible, but
it's not. Looks better than most Sydney buidlings. Most of which look
like shit.

The best thing you can do in Sydney, by a country mile, is to do a
bridge climb early in the morning. NOTHING comes close. Provided it's a
nice day (which it frequently is in Sydney).

Next time you come up, do the following:

* Bridge climb. Book well in advance.
* Take a trip to Manly on a ferry. Manly, itself, is pretty boring, but
the trip is nice.
* Check out some of the old buildings in Sydney. The Commonwealth Bank
building at the top of Martin Place is fabulous.
* Spend a few days in the Blue Mountains. Makes the Grand Canyon look
like shit. Don't just do the popular lookouts. There are some really
interesting lookouts in out of the way places (read: you have to hike).
Oh and whilst you're in Katoomba, this place is fucking great:

http://stationbar.com.au/

Surprisingly excellent pizzas.

**Yep. I was on one of those boats. It was fucking crowded. A great day
though. We (tried to) race Alan Bond's boat. No chance. For some reason,
all the women on most of the boats (including ours) thought it would be
a great idea to dump their bikini tops. No complaints from me.

Nice pics.

Some pretty sights in Sydney, but I wouldn't want to live there. It's
uber expensive, it's always busy and it just has an unfriendly vibe
about it that makes me appreciate Melbourne whenever I visit :)

We spent 3 weeks staying in Blackheath late 2019 and I agree, the Blue

season.

Come on Trev, the Blue Mountains are really nice, but "Make the Grand

Trevor does have a habit of exaggerating just a tad :)

I've never seen the Grand Canyon in the flesh, and while the Blue
Mountains are very nice they're not even a patch on *photos* of the
Grand Canyon :)

I've been around a lot of places in the Blue Mountains and they are very
beautiful, I've been to both the accessible parts of the Grand Canyon
probably a little less beautiful, but more impressive. They are
different but I wouldn't rate one above the other, for my money the
Yosemite Valley in California probably beats both. But then it's all a
matter of taste.

**Oh, I agree that taste has a great deal to do with it. The Grand
Canyon is impressive. One part I visited, with a native American guide
was brilliant. No fencing. One false step and there was a 300 Metre drop
to the Canyon floor. That was kinda cool. Still, there's some really
impressive sights near Katoomba. I didn't get to Yosimite unfortunately.

The scenery you encounter when driving through the Alps from Austria
into Italy is difficult to beat, as an experience I'd rate that higher
than the Blue Mountains, both are very scenic places well worth a visit.
