i have 2 windows 7 licences if anyone wants one so they can get a free update
to win 10 before it finishes.

I must admit I had to set mine to use UEFI and secure boot then reinstall
Win 10 and upgrade, not a problem as I don't use the laptop because I hate
Win 10!

Win 11 is worse as the taskbar sits at the bottom and can't be moved
without hacking and you can't install it unless you sign on with MSFT
credentials, not a so called "local user" account. There's a public domain
version of Classic Shell called Open Shell that is supposed to make it
more usable.

I am not completely clear on the value of a Win 10 licence.

The last I knew was that you could use their Media Creation Tool to make
a Win 10 installation disk and / or CD and get a system started that way.

If you then fail to "activate" Windows theres a permanent invitation on
the desktop for you to do so, and on further investigation I am told
that if I dont activate I will be missing out on some features, but I
have never found out what they are.

By the sound of things, the transition to Win 11 may not be as smooth as
they would like, possibly reminiscent of the short lived Windows 8 :-\
