Has anyone any idea why I see this when I try to load Linux from a Linux
Mint 20.2 ISO?

consider it an admission test, one which you spectacularly failed.

if you can't figure out how to type a number, you surely won't be able
to handle linux.

The machine is happily running 17.3 Xfce - but that's 32 bit

I didn't have any choice in the matter Billy. :-(

Long story short - I now have my earlier version of Linux Mint installed
again.

Maybe I'll installer the server you mention on my old machine!

First, though, I want to be able to connect it wirelessly to my router
(it did using Mac OS X, so the hardware is OK)

BT told me that the SSID and the BSSID are the same. Is that correct?

I'm not sure whether to select 'Infrastructure' or 'Ad-hoc' and am not
quite sure how to ascertain the correct Device MAC address.

I'm also being asked for the 'Cloned MAC address - what IS that?!!

MAC stands for Media Access Control address.

Every connection to a network needs one, and it should be unique. You can,
however, fake and clone MAC addresses.

Yes

Infrastructure mode requires a central access point that all devices connect
to.
Ad-hoc mode is also known as "peer-to-peer" mode.

Ad-hoc networks don't require a centralized access point. Instead,
devices on the wireless network connect directly to each other.

MAC address Is On The Outside Of
Your Mac OS X PC somewhere
Look For it

> I'm also being asked for the 'Cloned MAC address - what IS that?!!

The process of "cloning" your MAC address to your router is quite simple:

Log into your router's administration panel and clone your computer's
MAC address.
Restart your broadband modem.
When the system reboots, your ISP asks for a MAC address, and your
router responds with the MAC of your computer instead...
Your ISP thinks it's talking directly to your computer, and...

This is what Carroll does: he points to comment ABOUT people (made from
real people or socks), no matter how unsupported, and calls that evedence
even as he ignores what the target of his accusations actually has said.

Meanwhile I just point to what Carroll says:

<rrdeqo$kog$1@fretwizzer.eternal-september.org>

And the reply:

<zctCH.2588$rY1.190@fx40.iad>

Carroll admits to, at the very least, threats of harassing my employer,
then tries to minimize it by saying multiple posts somehow count as just
"one incident" of his outrageous behavior.

Then Carroll bizarrely insists people should WANT to be harassed by
him because that gives them a chance to prove they are innocent. Utter
insanity!

He directly admits to the threats but tries to pretend he did not follow
through, but he gives away his game with this comment:

-----
...here you *still* are, trying to make it appear that *I* should
feel guilty for blowing the whistle
-----
He refers to his harassment as "blowing the whistle" -- but does not
speak of feeling guilty IF he had done so, but speaks about HAVING done
so. He tried to deny it, but then made it clear he harassed my employer.

To add more support to his admission there, he claims to not understand
how harassing people is bad, or how innocent people can be harmed by
his harassment. He admits he cannot see what is wrong with such harassment,
but then pretends he was stopped by some anonymous Jiminy Cricket who
made him rethink how wrong his actions are. Why does he contradict himself
so much?

In short: He proves much of what I have been saying about him right
there. His words. No need to dig back.

After he screwed up, and as predicted, "new" people showed up. While
he currently is denying he uses such socks, in the past he has admitted
to it:

<d278fe60-ce88-403d-95a2-6f108edeb1de@googlegroups.com>
-----
I faked those Mac accounts, (i.e Toasty) because you
deserved it
-----

Yeah, he does bad things because his victims deserve it. That is his
worldview... he needs his anonymous Jiminy Cricket to stop him. He cannot
stop himself.

Connect to the Internet

should automatically connect you to the Internet
if you are using a wired (ethernet) connection.

For wireless,
you will have to configure your network connection

Here The One I'll Be Using On
ASPIRE One AO532h

Pull Out My Windows 10
Added A 250GB Hard Drive

antiX is a fast, lightweight and easy to install
systemd-free linux live CD distribution based on Debian Stable

for Intel-AMD x86 compatible systems.

antiX comes in four flavours for 32 and 64 bit boxes.

antiX comes as a full distro (c1GB),
a base distro (<700MB),
a core distro (c310MB)
and a net distro (c150MB) all with
a kernel that will boot "antique" PII,
PIII computers as well as the latest "modern" processors.

antiX offers users the "antiX Magic" in an environment suitable
for old and new computers.

So don't throw away that old computer yet!

Thanks, Billy.

I tried - and failed - to connect wirelessly.

For now, I've re-installed macOS X

(Follow-up set to ACW)

Meat claims to be the database-guru. Let us see him put up a form but lacking
the shipping/handling procedures. F. Russell deceived Meat a bit, big fucking
deal. No need to be a sniveling bastard about it?

Awhile back I did work on and showed some Perl for the front end which
is the only thing you can do when trying to avoid Meat's immature crap
while reading with Google Groups. NNTP protocol is based on Linux. Even
if Meat is too stupid to figure that out.

Who doesn't know that this kind of bunk is Meat's approach, not the modus
operandi of F. Russell? It is all just projection... the trolling, the
posting with F. Russell's name, the writing of word-twisted nonsense, the
animosity... the diaper rash and willingness to show how butthurt he is
over being booted from the playground for crapping in it again... Meat
can not help himself ;)
