Has anyone heard from no-capitals-or-punctuation tim recently? I don't
recall seeing any posts from him for a while.

He goes on long holidays to out-of-the-way places, and doesn't connect to
uk.r while away, so I assume that's where he is.

My last sighting of him on Usenet was mid-August 2020 (not just here,
but some other newsgroups where he was active).

He's been active here much more recently than that. I'll do a search later.

Last I recall he was planning a trip to some obscure places.

When was that? My last contact with him was in a thread about Chunnel
Sleepers in August 2020.

We'd been exchanging views typically ten times a day all year (and long
before that). Then it very suddenly stopped at lunchtime on 14th August.

Yes, I've now checked, and can't find any posts from him in the last 18 months (I must admit, I thought I'd seen Tim's
posts more recently). He'd been very active in summer 2020, but then suddenly stopped posting. That's too long for any
single trip to exotic locations.

Perhaps he’s gone on a trip to that most exotic of destinations, The Real
World, leaving us here in virtual limbo.

Whether it is the same "tim", I don't know, but a "tim" post here about
a bridge bash in May 2021.

Several other once regular posters seem to have posted little or nothing
in the past two years. I wonder if some have sadly become Covid victims.
Others have probably got fed up / bored, or moved to other interests.

Amongst those names seem to be:

bathwellchap@gmail.com

bellobus@hotmail.com

Clive Page

garden6089@live.co.uk

gordonT

jack@pyromancer.net

Joyce Whitworth

Marcus Potter

neil (of the fine steam photo collections)

puffernutter

Silent Hunter

and doubtless many others that I have missed.

Over the years many people have given up posting here. But I didn't get
the feeling tim... would just stop suddenly, and not come back.

My most accessible archive doesn't go quite that far back (I used a more
powerful one earlier) but if it's TimB I'm sure that's a different
person.

If not TimB, what persona?

There's no other current poster who resembles tim.

He was posting in 2021 , I haven’t gone through all old posts that for some
reason I still have access to but one was in a thread called “And now the
Boris Burrow “started in end of feb 21.

Roland actually replied to him several times despite having no
recollection of further contact after August 2020.

I suppose I better cut and paste one as otherwise he will argue he didn’t.

We didn't have the threatened emergency budget, the instant recession, the
sharp cuts to public services, the tax rises or the increase in
unemployment. The shops didn't have empty shelves (unlike when the Covid
lockdown loomed). All of those threats turned out to be wrong.
Were they lies or just honest mistakes? I don't know. The Brexiteers
clearly lied about the likely benefits of Brexit, but the Remain side told
equivalent lies, knowingly or not.

Not Remainer lies, because during the interregnum the Bank of England
stepped in to mitigate the effects; and now we've finally left, the scale
of the economic disaster is becoming apparent.

Is it, after all of two months? How do you separate it from the effects of
the minor pandemic that's coincided with it?

By listening to the people who say the friction is caused by increased red
tape, rather than the unavailability of staff because of self-isolating.

How do you know what the long-term friction level will be?

Depends what you mean by "long term". The government is retreating rapidly
from inbound friction, perhaps because it's failed to recruit the extra
customs agents or put in place the processes.

Current consensus is the Brexit lack-of-dividend will be about -4%,

over a 10-15 year period

so less than 0.5% per year

What is it about Brexit that makes people forget basic arithmetic?

The downward steps might average 0.5% per year (although I don't think I've
seen anyone commenting on the curve, it could be far more than 4% in the
short term, then recovering slightly); but it's a permanent dent of 4%
every year after.

I though that was that other bloke who had spent some time in an
institution and kept on about his high score on some scale or whatever,
was he posting from the Ukraine? Got upset initially because
some suggestion of his got rubbished, if he is in the Ukraine then he may
have other worries soon.
Marcus was the Autistic chap whose hobby was annoying rail staff and Police
,the latter by videoing them and also doing stupid F.O.I requests such as
how many Zombies roamed the streets.
Seemed to be running out on options for a future having annoyed or pissed
off all those trying to help him.

Yes, you're quite right, I was getting them confused.

I felt very sorry for Potter's poor parents.

Ah, he changed his posted email address, that's what caught me out, and
probably Roland, too. Anyway, thanks for confirming that he was active in
2021, as I'd thought.

He used Capitals quite often ISTR. When he couldn’t get his point accepted
he would resort to the online form of shouting and typing in all Capitals
in the hope that it might make a wrong assumption right. For some reason I
visualised him doing a foot stamp like angry sheep does at the same time.

Now, now. What I said was our exchanges of views stopped suddenly in
August 2020. That's me and tims_new_home, found by doing a search on
that persona; not by remembering a new persona popping up.

Armed with the new persona, I can see he swapped it in August 2020, and
we continued until the end of October 2021. Then it abruptly stopped
[again]. We were increasingly absorbed by Brexit, with him being an
ardent Leaver, and myself a stalwart Remainer.

Yes, and it doesn't help that his postings are sig-less.

I have him there (and elsewhere) until 22nd October. Suddenly stopping
in both places.

And here until 14th Sept. In a thread entitled "pondering".

he just didnt use capitals or punctuation much in normal posts

i understand from his posts that he had very arthritic hands and found
typing painful

presumably thats why he didnt add capitals or punctuation
