Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has broken his leg in an accident
at a friend's 50th birthday party.

The 34-year-old was running in the backyard with a friend when both
slipped, trapping Maxwell's leg.

Maxwell had surgery on Sunday and will miss the three-match one-day
international series with England, which begins on Thursday.

Sean Abbott has been called into the Australia squad as Maxwell's
replacement.

"Glenn is in good spirits," said Australia chief selector George
Bailey.

"It was an unfortunate accident and we feel for Glenn in the
circumstances given he was in great touch in his last few games."

"Glenn is a critical part of our white-ball structure and we will
continue to support him through his recovery and rehabilitation."

The penny just dropped with me; after my mate showed me the Star TV
type coverage package thing I realised.
Gambling in India is illegal (?).
Star TV outside of India is connected to gambling (and Disney).
If gambling in a country is illegal then all kinds of 'sports' for
wager will evolve in the 'back room'.
I don't gamble (Son of a turf accountant) I know better, I'd love to
gamble sometimes but I know who will win and it won't be me.

Of course the most fair contests in sport to satisfy humans is between
dumb animals. Horses and dogs and dogs especially. Racing dogs and
coursing hares. The only way to cheat is to either knobble the
official or the other dog.

Possibly, but Maxwell was by some distance Australia's best performer
in the T20WC - without him, they might not have won a match.

at least its not more t20s. I would have thought that SS, marnus, warner & co would be better off
playing in the SS to prepare for the tests to come. I spose as theyr against the windies the
selectors think they dont need to.

Like in this case, a floating, high class odo batter who is a top class
fielder and respectable purveyor of Bitson darts, has been replaced by a
medium paced trundler who is *very* badly out of form in all our domestic
formats. Yes Virginia, he opens the bowling for NSW.

Ashley, local pundits have declared that Stoinis was our best performer.
Although more lines are still being printed on how unjustified and
horrendous the dropping of Starc was.

Judging by the Windies' bowling performance against a Combined NSW/ACT
XI with 1 FC match between them, there would be some justification for
that POV - 426/4d, with 3 of the wickets taken by their 6th, 8th and 9th
bowlers.
