It wouldn't be any higher for the trucks. That said, the caravan(s) may
only be doing 80 or 90 even though the legal limit for them is also 100
kph. Fuel consumption really ramps up once you go over 80 kph.

It's the 900x plus 2 channel. I'm running a Samsung Max Endurance 256gb
MicroSd in it. I tried a Sandisk designed for dash cams but it died very
quickly.

I had the cb on ch40 and didn't hear him. It wasn't the one that scared
me though. Going up hill in an overtaking lane. No warning it ended soon
as I was passing a wide load which had a tire blowout and subsequent
fire. He'd slowed to about 20km/h then as I get to the rear of the cab
he starts moving across as the lane ends. He was calling out for his
pilot vehicle to get back with the fire extinguisher. Couldn't see any
fire as I went past but you could see the tire gone.

trucks and caravans and trucks are definitely limited to 100 kph

Been doing a bit of research on the things, and just received one of
these a few days ago:

They're not well known here in Oz, but rate pretty highly in the US and
online reviews seem to think they're pretty good. Took a week to get
here from the US through Amazon, and while I've only just quickly bench
tested it to try it out it seems to work well and looks to be very well
made. The app is pretty easy to use and seems to work well.

I'm still considering a Blackvue, but this was a lot of camera for the
money and hard to pass up considering the owner satisfaction ratings.
I'll stick this one in the Santa Fe and see how it works in that, and if
it turns out as good as it's reputation seems to suggest then I'll
probably get another for the Ranger. Otherwise it'll be a Blackvue for
me, and while I was contemplating the 750 your 900 looks like the one to
have.

Nothing wrong with the Garmin 57's. They work very well. Especially
their night vision which is excellent.

Seems like he was concentrating on his tyre problem and not the road.
I know you are heading to Western Vic so the Newell is the most direct
route but the few people I know who drive from Vic to Qld or the other
way have told me to avoid it like the plague saying that its pretty
awful, looks like you have proved their point.
Bris to Syd via the Pacific Hwy then skirt around Syd and come down the
Hume seems to be the preferred route.
I haven't driven trucks for many years but I wonder if the shortage of
drivers is making things worse, existing drivers working longer hours
with more pressure from bosses and shippers is not a recipe for safe
driving?

Supposed to be limited to 100 but most set their limiters to 103 because
the police aren't interested at 103.
Massive fines and other costs if a limiter has been set at over 103,
truck is unroadworthy and they have to pay for the limiter to be re
calibrated, not impossible for the fines and other costs to exceed
$10,000 if caught and the cop throws the book at them.
Don't know about other states but in Vic Hwy patrol cops are very few
and far between and the truck drivers know it so some push the limit.
