Say you decide because you don't need a car anymore that you will not
bother to renew your drivers license.

If you later decide to get a car and therefore a drivers license, will
you need to re-do a driving test to get the license.

In Victoria, it depends on how long it has been since your licence
expired. I assume it's similar in other states.

Generally it's better to renew to save the extra trouble of
reapplying. If this is like a passport, re-application after expiry
involves a new birth certificate, a new mugshot, endless waiting in
queues and travel to rte mote sites that have weird business hours.
And endless waiting for the replacement to arrive.

If you are 80 or over I believe everyone has to be tested?
