A motorist has today pleaded guilty to causing the death of a cyclist by careless driving. The tragedy happened at Faenol Hill, Bangor, on December 9, 2021, and Daniel Evans, aged 45, died.

Richard Gardner, 40, of Tan y Lan Road, Old Colwyn, appeared before magistrates at Caernarfon. He had been driving a VW vehicle.

Full details of the prosecution case weren’t given. Defence barrister Owen Edwards didn’t object to an interim driving ban being imposed.

The magistrates committed the defendant for sentencing in the crown court at the end of the month. Unconditional bail was granted.

North Wales Live reported in January last year how the cyclist, later named as Mr Evans, was riding his bicycle in the direction of Park Menai near Bangor on December 9, 2021 when he was involved in the crash.

Mr Evans, a health care solutions team leader for Siemens Healthineers who lived in Felinheli, was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd following the incident on the A487 Faenol Hill near Penrhosgarnedd, but died shortly after arriving.
