Going through several thousand photos of my exploits on the canals in
the 70's and 80's, and surprisingly few have any railway content, given
they often share corridors.

But here's three:

http://www.perry.co.uk/images/ukr-quiz.jpg

The two on the left are fairly obvious (and I didn't take the lower one
- I'm on the front of the boat in the blue shirt).

The right hand one, I don't remember where, but probably west midlands.

Some photos on here but the main reason for this second post is the picture
down that page which shows that the railway at one time fed a locomotive
water supply from a take off point on the side of aqueduct, the GWR at the
time owned the canal it being acquired by a local company in the 19th
century which had later got absorbed into the GWR.

Yes, I think it is; would be consistent with the route we took.

Ha! And it gets really confused around here - the canal (NE-SW) is the
highest and the river (SE-NW) the lowest, with the roads and the railway in
between; and the towpath is on the N side of the canal throughout, with no
crossings.

Even the normally accurate OpenStreetMap makes a mess of that one.
<https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/55.92362/-3.24860>

If I recall correctly, there are really only two levels: rail, towpath,
canal and road run parallel NE-SW above river and walkway running SE-NW,
except that the walkway rises to meet the road. Curved steps connect
the low-level walkway to the high-level towpath.

Yes, the Water of Leith walkway goes under the canal.

The road obviously runs above the river; at the aqueduct the railway is
some way below the canal though it climbs to the SW and in about half a
mile passes over the canal, though only just.
