Bit of a beat up. Not sure if the captain should've withdrawn the appeal. I'm sure he wouldn't have if the oppo needed 1 run to win.

Interestingly... the non-striker SEEMED to be watching the bowler like a hawk. Yet he still left the crease early.

I do think batsmen who leave early should be punished. But I don't like the "feeling" around Mankads, even this one (which happened very early).

Again, the crowd got upset. It's the only type of dismissal that results in crowds booing.

Crowds are programmed to think in a "certain way" for decades in this
issue.

They are right in THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE because the game is already decided.

Shami should have "EXERCISED common sense" and should NOT have appealed.

I would have withdrawn the appeal, since it WON'T change the outcome of
the game AND also gives a chance to Shanaka to complete his century,
which he thoroughly deserved.

I would also have advised ALL Indian bowlers NOT to mankad in situations
like these.

It's just a waste of time and creates unnecessary controversies and
expression of useless emotions and arguments.

Harsh Mankad's comments were interesting:

==Vinoo’s grandson Harsh Mankad weighed in the debate and said he had no problems with the term “Mankading”.

“Personally, I’m always delighted to see my grandfather being remembered. I feel it to be a great honour for our name to be associated with a cricketing term,” Harsh was quoted as saying by the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I’d love to see the “Mankad” or “Mankading” stay and keep alive his memories and legacy as a great competitor and sportsman deeply respected and admired by everyone I’ve met and those who knew him and experienced life with him.”

And again, if you think that tweaking the Law by making the front foot
a crucial part of the decision is going to stop the booing, you are
completely mad.

Not that it's the only way to get booing from the crowd at a
dismissal. There was booing at the SCG when Steve Smith was given out
for some other reason.

I agree with him. But if you want to stop the booing, you've got to
outlaw Mankads and let batsmen cheat with impunity.

I can't help feeling, though, that this new approach to Law-making is
designed to benefit England excessively as the only team which takes
thousands of booers on every tour.

Cheers,

Mike

I agree. But I didn't mention changing the Law here.
As I've said elsewhere, fixing today's shit Law only helps a bit. It doesn't solve all the problems.
