There has been a continuous announcement on Radio York internet that Radio York
has a problem with Internet broadcasts for weeks. I suppose somebody in Radio

I have just tried it on my Roberts 94i and it seems fine. Maybe it is
the particular stream you are using? I believe different bitrates are
available.

PS Just noticed you are in the Netherlands. Maybe the higher bitrates

More likely you are being blocked as you are not in the UK.

A quick solution is to download the Opera browser which has VPN built in
and you can select UK.

They possibly have to limit access to things like football matches.

BBC can't allow anything Olympic to be heard outside uk - e.g. the excepts
they use in news bulletins.

Just tried it and I am getting a message that is clearly related to
the sports rights issue: 'Unfortunately, the *current* programme is
unavailable'. It is generic to all of local radio with no suggestion
of any fault in York. I can only suggest is it geo-restricted based
on your IP address. Why not phone Radio York? I am sure they will
tell you.

Was the 'problem' related to 'this programme' or 'this service'? Big
difference.

The message is the same 24 hours a day and has been for at least a month. As
somebody else said it is on all local radio MP3 channels

If you are saying the massage is 'BBC Radio York is not available on
the Internet' then this is a totally different message to the one I
received which referred to 'this programme' and made no reference to
Radio York specifically.

It sounds like a geo-restriction to me. Why don't you phone Radio
York and ask instead of (if I may say so) repeating yourself again and
again in this group?

The BBC say this about the matter:-

Quote:-
"During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, local BBC radio stations will not be
available online to listeners located outside the UK. National radio
stations will be available, however some programmes, or segments of a
programme, may be unavailable. This is due to rights reasons.

This may also impact some UK listeners if the device accessing the
stream uses Shoutcast. Shoutcast has one stream covering both the UK and
overseas, so these will be unavailable at this time. If your device is
affected, you'll hear a looping message advising that the stream isn't
available at the moment.

If you're within the UK, you might prefer to use a different device to
listen to our local radio streams in the meantime. We appreciate this
may not be ideal, but it may provide a solution for listening in the
interim. For more help with how to listen, have a look at our FAQ:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/questions/getting-started-with-bbc-sounds/listen-live"

End Quote

I know you say Radio York hasn't been available for you since way before
the Olympics, but I wouldn't faff about until tomorrow, which is when
the Olympics restrictions are lifted.
In fact I think from tomorrow the BBC are not allowed to show any more
clips of coverage, period.

If you put that in a modern web browser you get a BBC Sounds web page
and from there you can play a fully working AAC (I think) stream.

However if you put that in a music player or internet radio it'll
probably fail saying it is not an audio stream or perhaps it'll know how
to find a stream within it but it seems that it'll probably find the non
working MP3 stream.

All BBC local radio on the Internet, except if you use BBC Sounds in
which case it'll use AAC.
