The various factors that have caused passenger numbers to drop has meant
the through Diesel service to Wareham has been postponed again till 2023

If or when these services ever get under way will the stock involved be the
only Heritage DMU units permitted onto the tracks of National Rail for
regular services as opposed to railtours undertaken by the Hampshire Unit.

In Germany, that's nothing special:
The Schwäbisch-Alb-Bahn drives into Ulm station daily, providing
time-tabled trasnport services for pupils and tourists.

train tickets.

The Kuckucksbähnel (steam) drives 15 minutes on the main line before
reaching "its own" track.
