Root is now 7th in the list of test batters with the most 150s.
Ahead of him are Bradman and Tendulkar of course, who
are the other 4?

And now 1 i dont know. They mentioned that someone
played for both england and oz in the 19th century,
but i missed the name. Who was he, and has anyone done
that since?

Sangakkara, Lara, Jayawardene, and Ponting (to my surprise: I'd
guessed Gooch).

The dual-nationality one is Sammy Woods, who Grace effectively
kidnapped to get him to play for England.

Several people did. They weren't as hung up about such things
in the 19thC.

That was WE Midwinter. The others [so far] are WL Murdoch, JJ
Ferris, SMJ Woods and AE Trott. The only player with substantial Test
experience for two countries is KC Wessels. Wiki has lists, linked in
[eg] from their entries for any of the above players.

WE Midwinter. played for and against England and Australia

I think that is the only case. However there were instances of Australians who played for Oz and who later turned out for England against SA, eg, Sammy Wood and JJ Ferriss . RH

Yes, apart from Billy Murdoch fielding as a substitute and taking a
catch for England against his own side at Lord's in 1884 (the first sub
cacth in a Test).

There may have been more than one. Eric Midwinter is one name that comes
to mind, rightly or wrongly. In Wisden's records section ISTR they used
to have a list of all the Test cricketers who have played for more than
one country. I'll see if I can find it... no luck, I'm afraid - I looked
in a couple of old editions without success.

Yes you are all correct, Midwinter was the player as hes the only 1 to
have played for and against both Oz and England, I think for Oz
in Oz against England, then he played for Gloucs where he was born,
played for England against Oz in Oz and then for Oz against England
in England. A very unusual career and life that ended rather tragically.

I wonder how he was received by the oz crowds in 1881/2 when he
played for england, and then back in england when he played for oz
in 1884? Cos then as now things could get quite heated. I remember
reading there was 1 tour match which nearly ended in a riot over an
umpire decision.
