Chattagram sounds like it should be the name of an online service that's
a rival to Twitter. As for today's match, the less said the better.

It is far more than twitter. It is AI which will answer questions in a sophisticated way which, for example, would allow an essay to be used by a student. to bypass the need for the student to write the essay. RH

As for today's match, the less said the better.

I doubt that. I'm not sure that even ChatGPT can yet be described as
capable of thinking, so it's extremely unlikely that a much earlier
prototype which degenerates to doctor "jokes" when it can't simulate a
rational response can manage thinking either.

I read today that ChatGPT had managed to pass the USA bar exam. It's
probably been representing Terry Sanderson.

I don't know, I just asked ChatGPT to "explain English cricket in the style of libertarian Robert Henderson" - it's nailed him on the padding and protection....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, well, well, let me tell you about this thing they call English cricket. Now, some might say it's a gentleman's game, played with honor and tradition, but I say it's a perfect example of how government intervention can ruin anything.

You see, cricket was once a simple game, played with a ball and a bat. But then the government got involved, and they started making all sorts of rules and regulations. Suddenly, you couldn't just hit the ball anywhere you pleased - you had to stay in a certain area, and you had to run back and forth between two sticks. And don't even get me started on the costumes they wear - who needs all that padding and protection?

But the real tragedy of English cricket is the way it stifles competition. There are only a handful of teams that are allowed to play at the highest level, and they're all controlled by a small group of elites who make all the decisions. They're like a cricketing oligarchy, and they're keeping talented players from all over the world out of the game.

Now, if we just let the market take care of things, we'd see a much more vibrant and exciting game of cricket. Players would be free to innovate and experiment, and fans would have a much wider variety of teams to choose from.. And who knows - we might even see some new rules and strategies emerge that make the game even more thrilling.

So let's take the shackles off of English cricket, and let the players and fans decide what's best for themselves. Because that's the libertarian way - freedom and individualism, all the way down the pitch.

Oh dear, very pc Dixon fails again. I am not a free market libertarian, viz

“Free markets and “free trade” = elite propaganda”
I wrote this long eassay in 2005. The financial crash and recession since provide added grist to my arguments as the rich get richer, most people get steadily poorer, public provision shrinks and the inequality between people swells.

The lessons of economic history tell this story: a strong domestic economy is necessary for sustained economic growth and stability. The freer the trade with foreign states, the less stable and secure the domestic economy.

Post-war economic experience illustrates this nicely. Britain experienced her strongest sustained growth in the period 1945-1972. This was a period of protectionism and much state intervention in the economy. Problems arose in the 1970s, but these were largely due to the oil price spike after 1973, a consequence of globalism. However, even with the oil price spike, unemployment in Britain never went much above 1 million until Thatcher arrived and wilfully destroyed our heavy and extractive industries.

During the period 1945-1979, Britain did not suffer a serious sustained recession. From 1979 onwards, under the Thatcherite ideology we have had three serious recessions: in the early 1980s, the early 1990s and the present recession.
To our post-war experience I would add the fact that England built her commerce then the first Industrial Revolution behind very restrictive protectionist measures such as the Navigation Acts. RH

As for the future I suspect it will be this:

And the liberal said

And the liberal said,

With a moron’s profundity,

All men are the same.

How strange that they

Should fight in our new world.

And the liberal said:

How ridiculous,

This is the twentieth century!

But the mass of men acted

As they always had.

And the liberal said:

This is mediaeval,

Reason will prevail.

But the mass of men shouted reason down,

As they always had.

And the liberal said:

It’s only a matter of time,

Of men being shown the way.

But the mass of men refused to sit

On one legged ideological stools.

And the liberal said:

Just a little more time

Or another way.

But the mass of men refused to be

Bound in the ways of reason.

And the liberal said:

We know best, man can evolve,

Nurture is all.

But the mass of men still moved

In predestined genetic ways.

And the liberal said:

We need more money,

It’s just a matter of education.

But the mass of men heard their words

And thought them empty vanity.

And the liberal said (privately):

How infuriating!

What lesser men are these!

But the mass of men refused

To see their fault.

And the liberal said:

These are but children,

Give them time to learn.

But the mass of men rose up

And no longer let the moments pass.

And the mass of men said:

What a thing is freedom!

How painful, so burdensome a state!

And oppressed the liberal

As he had oppressed them.

The internationalists

Men who do not understand

What is beyond

The satisfaction of plodding reason

And mundane wants and needs;

Men who do not see

That a land is more than

Rocks and rivers, trees

And fields or the

Atom called a man,

But a myth of oneness

Which a people has,

Where rich and poor

Live half separated lives

Yet still believe

Themselves a part

Of something greater

Than a vulgar mass of

Coldly counted men.

——————————————————–

Heresy

A man says forbidden things,

Then another and change

Filters through single

Grains of courage.

What was blasphemy

Becomes the commonplace,

And men are as lions

Who once would have lighted

The way to ignorance

With the tallow

Of their thoughts,

Sent heavenwards

By stinking faggots,

Damp with hate and fear,

To leave an ash

Of unrequited curiosity,

Which like the phoenix

Is never truly killed.

——————————————————–

Cumulo-nimbus

Twenty twenty one

And the pogroms come

Because no Public One

Would heed the thrum

Of Nature’s drum

Saying ever on

Before each one

The tribe must come.

——————————————————–

Too late, too late!

Bend your mind towards the wind,

All around is heard the whisper –

Our rulers are effete

And none new to be found.

Soon the world will shake

Before never altered truths

Of blood and land

Which hide behind

The scapegrace clothes

Of selfish fools

Who mewl upon an idea

Thinking wishing is reality
