The England and Wales Cricket Board faces the daunting prospect of replacing half its board as a key figure in overseeing reform at Yorkshire becomes the latest senior figure to stand down.

Martin Darlow's imminent departure as deputy chairman comes after a damaging week for the governing body in which Michael Vaughan's legal team accused it of "bias" in its racism investigation against him.

Darlow had been a significant figure in the ECB's response to the Azeem Rafiq furore. During a spell as acting chairman last year, he was said to have given Rafiq a tour of the Lord’s media centre after the chief witness in the ECB's investigation was given Test match hospitality. Darlow was the board member appointed to support the crisis-torn club and last year lent his support to the work done by the club's outgoing chairman Lord Patel..

"I firmly believe that Kamlesh is the right person to lead Yorkshire to a new future," he had said after Headingley was given back its status as Test venue. "With a strong team supporting him and a clear path for the future change, the club can unite again."

Aside from its handling of the Yorkshire racism furore, the board has attracted criticism from first-class counties over their perceived lack of representation.
