I keep hearing this referred to, but wondered if anyone could explain what
had happened and where it is on the mast. I'd still have thought that a fire
in the buildings should have had little effect on the mast but how did smoke
get into the mast?

I'd imagine bringing it down should happen before they start the new one,
surely?
If indeed that is what is decided upon.
Brian

Are the kitchens and utility rooms out of action as well?

Hardly, I would imagine though that we really do have too much telly. I
spent some time last night looking though the channels on freeview and the
free to air stuff that the Samsung smart TV has, and found nothing really
entertaining or that was not a repeat of something I'd seen before.
Unless people want to watch eye candy and inane game shows or wall to wall
minority sports that is, not to mention some very old tv series and shows,
cooking etc.

It is funny, you don't hear people going into bookshops (which can often
cover a large area spread over several floors) and say that we have too
many books!

Like television, we ignore most of them.

It's a lot easier to choose a book than a TV programme, as the books are
arranged in some sort of order, and it's usually easier to remember
whether you have read one before.
