It's concerning that of their five main bowlers in this match, only
Broad seems to be fully match-fit. (Counting Stokes as a main bowler but
not Root.)

not a great comback for Ali; but for those misses he could have had a 5for,
plus the plan to buy a wkt with the field up, even if they did get head in
the end, went on for far too long, and now hes been fined for spraying
his finger blister himself on the field but hes probably not bowled more than
10 overs a day for 2 years. he def got the short straw in luck this match.

i notice that bairstows still got a lot of strapping on his leg as well, although
that shouldnt affected his hands but after marnus, hes missed the lot.

i was thinking if all the pitches are as flat as this one, surely theres little
point in choosing robbo this summer, and then he and anderson took
4 wkts. pity it wasnt yesterday with the new ball. but seeing them
bowling bouncers [and some of robbos were quite slow], i cant help
but think they should have chosen wood or tongue to do that job.

those last 30 mins under lights show why stokes wants flat pitches,
cant do bazball in those conditions. bit like the 1st safy test last year.
hope its finer tomorrow, and lyon has a finger blister too. i cant remember
his name but there was a oz offy who partnered warne, and i remember
he bowled a lot of overs and had this crack or open sore in his hand
for the last 2 tests that series. i think he was quite proud of it.

Speaking of "little grots"... I see another very average Blue has been
stuffed into a suit and been undeservedly given a talking head job on the

found to be unacceptable even for a CNSW Presentation night, a feat long

There appear to be an above-average smattering of them in world cricket. Let's face it - which modern day cricketers would you actually _want_ to have a pint with?

The problem for Robinson is despite being a properly decent bowler I would suspect it's quite easy to get under his skin.

The myth is that he's as good as 'our' media keeps telling us. Fact is,
if he hadn't played any of those bowler-friendly pink ball Tests he'd have
an average in the 30s. And that's in the territory of his predecessor as
our Most Over-rated bowler. B. Lee.

He was a ringleader in the gang of NSW spoilt princelings who knifed
Justin Langer. The coach who had just won Oz our first T20 WC and coached
Oz to a 4-0 slaughter of Ingerland. A disgraceful effort which was
universally soft soaped by 'our' media. Bah!

He's a nice looking lad though, he couldn't do such a thing!

Yes, if you arranged the England players in order of likeability, he
would probably come in at number 11.

Just from the current England team, Root and Moeen immediately come to
mind (with the slight problem that Moeen won't actually be able to drink
his pint). On the Australian side, Cummins and Khawaja come across as
lieable.

I'm not sure if it's that or whether he's just naturally a bit of a yob
(to use an old-fashioned word).

Nope. The forecast correctly predicted that the long dry spell would
break down. Today (Monday) is looking OK, but it looks dodgy again for
tomorrow. Hopefully the fear of losing most of tomorrow to rain won't
cause Stokes to declare at 3 pm and set Australia 220 to win, but I
wouldn't put it past him.

Oops. I imagine that Alvey will suggest that that was a Freudian slip in
the case of Cummins.

theyve got to get there first. while root and brook were in, i was hopeful
but cummins and lyon have brought it right back to oz, although it might
have been all over 1st ball of the day for root who seems addicted to
ramping. i guess he saw so little action in the ipl he wants to make up
for it now.

never have i seen such celebration when bairstows lbw was overturned,
just. still prefer to be in oz position.

England were almost exactly 220 runs on at 3 pm, but thankfully Stokes
didn't declare. As I also foresaw Moeen's finger injury, I'm beginning
to feel like Nostradamus. :)
