Dr. William Edward Day lived on Barrow Road in Bristol sometime
around the 1850s and the bridge over the cutting for the Bristol
And South Wales Union Railway is named after him, as Dr. Day's Bridge.

Now, why should this be, for the next bridge along on Ducie Road
is not named.

Can it be that the railway intended no bridge here and that Dr.Day
led the campaign for it, or was it perhaps the former site of
Dr.Day's residence?

When the junction for the Rhubarb Loop was put in just there, the
junction became known as Dr.Day's Bridge Junction.

Google results (including uk.r passim) suggest that he was a well-known
local figure, and his house was a distinctive local landmark.

In general usage, the junction name has lost its 'bridge', being commonly
known as just Dr Day's Junction (similarly Narroways Jn just up the line
has lost its 'hill').
