I'm thinking of taking the plunge into Oled, one of the newish 48"
models (I want 55" swimbo says NO). Does anyone in the group have
experience/views on which to go for? Current set is a 42" Samsung
4k"smart" TV.
Thanks.

I've had an LG 48" OLED for 2 months.
https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-oled48c14lb

It replaced a 49" LG LED
I cannot fault the picture quality which is a clear improvement on the
LED.
I have a BT Sport TV package with BT Ultimate which live streams Various
sports in 4K, I've compared the HD and UHD streams and UHD is visibly
superior, noticeably on textures of clothing and skin ETC.
I watched a boxing match and on HD the text adverts on the ropes where
not quite readable, switching to UHD made them legible.

Operationally it runs WebOS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebOS and is
mouse/pointer controlled by a motion sensitive RF remote with scroll
wheel etc. Once you get used to shaking and waving your remote at the TV
and learn the menus, it proves to be very usable.
It also responds well to voice commands and can be linked to Amazon
Alexa.

THE LG app store has umpteen apps for just about everything. No need for
external streaming devices.
https://gb.lgappstv.com/main/tvapp

Overall I'm very chuffed with it

Current setis nothing fancy, just a straightforward LED 8 years old. I
want a change from Samsung but they don't do Oled anyway, I believe.
LG, Philips, Sony, Panasonic do Oled, but what are the pros and cons?

Buy 55", download and print instructions and brochure for 48", leave
these lying about.

Is this not all about contrast and colour accuracy though? Obviously, like
everything else if the quality is there, I guess you would see it on the
newer tech screens.
I'd suspect though that unless you were really a big user and needed the
extra, most of the time other forms of display are OK. The smearing of lcds
has long since gone away when objects move its more now to do with the speed
of the encode and decode for moving image quality. Myself, I don't care
obviously, but its been interesting seeing the different display makers
doing trade offs of one thing against another to make theirs better in some
way but maybe not in others.

People still watch that program? BBC Click is far superior and clearly made for
grown ups unlike TGS.

I've not owned one but I have heard they can suffer screen burn-in like plasma
sets (whatever happened to them?).

I bought a 55 but told the spouse it was a 49...

Just hide the box.

(she was very pleased "I told you 49 would be enough")
