So what changes would you make to your team for the 2nd Test?

I guess for Oz, maybe Starc for Hazelwood . Hazelwood has been out for a while so an extra week would get him right for the 3rd Test .

I think the English bowling is going to come under scrutiny a lot more then Australia bowling lineup. Spinning options? Pace options ? Anderson? Wood?

Seems about right. ScoBo keeps his spot.

As much as I like and thank Ali, I'd risk picking another spinner.
No other change.

That might depend on how Broad & Anderson pull up, do you want to risk one of them breaking down if there's another flat pitch?

True. My post ignored any health/fitness concerns. It was just based on form.

Wood has to come in to make England's pace attack less "samey". Ali is
unlikely to be fit, and also Lord's Test pitches rarely seem to offer
spinners much help, so England may decide that Root's quite presentable
off-spin is sufficient. We've also seen that Stokes can't bowl many
overs, which may incline them towards picking an extra seamer. So the
England 8-11 could be Wood, Robinson, Broad, Anderson. Or if they are
worried about Anderson's fitness/form or the length of the tail it could
be Woakes, Wood, Robinson, Broad.

woakes or anderson, wood yobbo and broad for me, but the word after the
match was that with the 10 days break, they thought that would allow ali to recover,
which seems rather foolish, so it could be the same side. plus england have that
keeper problem, they want jonny in the side, so they cant have foakes, so we
have to hope his keeping is a bit sharper in the next match.

Seems like one change that would be reasonable. Starc would make light work of the England tail...

I do reckon with the attacking ethos they think "fuck it" and go with Rehan Ahmed - even though he's progressing towards being a better batsman than bowler (if he's not there already). And maybe Wood for Anderson? God knows. Maybe they'll be bloody minded and not change a thing and give Ali a skin graft between now and next week.

Well call me Arthur and colour me old-fashioned, but I'd rather pick a
bowler who can get the top order out.

Where's my call up? I fancy myself against Crawley.

There's also the point that he seems most deadly when he can get swing -
whether conventional or reverse - and there was almost none of either
variety to be had at Edgbaston. Of course conditions for the remaining
Tests are likely to offer him a lot more. He would also strengthen the
tail - even though Robinson's claim that Australia had three number 11s
turned out to be wide of the mark.

We're talking about Crawley here. Ponting could offer a few outside off and would get a nibble.

Wood definitely if fit . If not they could do worse that Craig Overton. I saw him bowl against Mddx thes season If not Tonhue serves a go..

For spinner, either Livingstone or Matt Parkinson . As England are already one down probably
the latter. candidates Outsider spinners are Liam Dawson and Danny Briggs..

we had 2 number 11's and one number 10

Personally I thought as soon as Carey got out it should have been fast bowlers only, new ball asap...dont give then time to settle in

Boland did well as nightwatchman and obviously Lyon did well. So I'd say
two number 10s and a number 11.

I think England were influenced by the new ball not having done much
previously, except when the weather helped for that 20 minute session
near the start of England's second innings.

That's certai9nly a possibility for Lord's, especially if Moeen's finger
hasn't healed.

i dont know whether it holds any significance for the team at lords,
but when stokes did take the final new ball, he chose Broad and yobbo,
rather than anderson. jimmys got a pretty good record at lords but
if the pitch is going to be another flat one, he probably wont have
much joy there either.

Even if the original damage has healed I'd think it's extremely likely to tear again
