A friend wanted me to crack a laptop (legit reasons). The power icon had
been removed from login screen. So put ophcrack on USB, boot it and it
complains no tables found...
Then I remembered it runs a linux than can read/write NT filesystem.
So go to windows/system32 directory and fiddle a few things to get cmd
prompt on next boot, reset password to blank, Bob's yer uncle.

I've never needed to know what the old password was, so use "Offline NT
Password & Registry Editor":
http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Though that hasn't been updated since 2014 so it might not work for
newer Windows versions.
