Really? I find it strange that anyone who likes Jo'B could be so anti
Nick Abbot.

JoB doesn't use highly intrusive sounds effects in order to be
offensive in the way Nick Abbot specialises.

I'm not anti-Nick Abbot. It's that I find he has little to offer.
Although once in a while he shows he is actually very astute but then
he reverts to clowning around. His show is too restless for my liking
but maybe that's partly the producer's fault.

I think his soundboard clips are great!

You call it 'clowning' if you want, but there's a sort-of method in his
I light-hearted madness.

Yes. Not sure of the reason, but they do mean the average power when using
a sinewave. It might be to avoid confusion with 'peak' powers which report
the peak power level for the same size of sinewave.

However by the late 1970s the IHFA set a 'standard' for these measurements
which better makers, etc, adopted. That included the way 'RMS' was used but
also added the "killing ground" of requiring the amp to be run at 1/3rd of
this power level for an hour before measurement. This level was chosen to
give a very high power dissipation in the output devices. Thus 'push' the
design to check that it could cope.

Frankly, that was way too hard a test as it has little do with music. But
did eliminate a lot of the "following wind on a good night for 5
microsecond" values some makers claimed.

Still didn't really deal with speakers not being resistive loads, but that
just makes things even more, erm, complex. 8-]
