For the last few days I have been getting 20-30 identical emails a day in my
spam box. They are all of the blackmail type - "I have recorded you" with a
threat to go public if I don't pay someone strange amounts in bitcoins. I
wonder if some hapless idiot has bought a spamming kit from a conman and is
trying desperately to get their zbarl's-worth. I guess they'll stop soon.

Anyone else simmilarly afflicted?

surfaces every couple of months then fades away ... wash & repeat

I get a steady trickle of them, perhaps two in a pair of fortnights,
then a long gap. I've got my own domain, and they arrive at a number of
different addresses. I also have a large number of addresses[42]
blacklisted, so they may also be getting them.

[42] Turnpike creates message ids that look like email addresses, and in
the past these have been harvested. I've now fixed that so they are
invalid addresses.

I've ~ never had such emails. At least not in recent decades.
ISP spam filters at work perhaps ? ... dunno.
It's certainly not anything that I've done.

Not currently but they come in waves probably reflecting some
hopeful's progress through the address database they paid good zbarl for
using the spam mailer they also paid good zbarl for and the relay botnet
that they probably pay for by the kilo-email.

Just like in the gold rush it's the tool makers and boot sellers
who really clean up.

Just took a look in my spam trap folders. It seems my amazon.co.jp
account gets suspended a lot as do various cards I didn't know I had,
several women want to say hi (mostly Russian, seems they like my profile
and think I live in the US), I'm missing out on some stock opportunities,
competition wins, deliveries, Rolex watches, fancy knives and a few other
odds and ends. There's also a bunch that won't render despite pretty
extensive font support, probably wrong content type. That's just in the
last 24 hours.

Not for a long time. But. Last few weeks I've won toolkits, pans, drills
and sundry stuff from lowes, screwfix and amazon.com. I've been offered
snakeskin grafts for my short sighted eye, a special water for my
diabetes and some weird pills for my erectile dysfunction.

And apparently someone has video of me perving to kiddie porn. Send
bitcoin to the value of 5000gbp or else.

So the snakeskin and pills worked.......allegedly!
