No idea why I am asking here except some may have knowledge of the army,
I know Tone was Navy.
In old pictures (WWII, that sort of era) tanks seem to be festooned with
equipment (logs, sandbags, bed rolls, water 'Jerries' all sorts) but
looking at pictures of current tanks they seem to be bare of all this
'stuff'.
Is there a reason for this or is it just that people spend a LOT less
time in AFVs these days?

Maybe 'clutter' on the outside would prevent reactive armour from doing
its wbo?

And the 'clutter' is unlikely to survive any local explosions?

Oh! olde laptop back on line, but I'm lacking certification.

The only tanks I jbexed on were aircraft fuel tanks. Not many logs,
sandbags, bed rolls, water 'jerries' and Licorice Allsorts attached to
them. Wasn't room in the wings.

There was one Fairey Swordfish still flying in my time. I think it still
is, out Yeovilton. It used to amuse me seeing the three man crew
standing to attention and saluting as they flew past on open days.

ATM it seems from a quick gwgl or 3 that Swordfish W5856 and LS326 are
currently airworthy.

After the war, my father went to Canada to train new pilots. The ones
over there had canopies which apparently helped in that climate. Unlike
the British ones, which were mostly scrapped, the Canadian ones had a
benefactor who bought a number of them and they have since been resold
for restoration in a 'disassembled state'. One of these is in a museum
in Malta and there is a second in the RAF reserve store at Stafford.
I have seen both those - but not a complete one. Yet.

I'm not sure. Somewhere (from online) I have a list of all those that
were saved and where they ended up. I think there were five, in the
group I am thinking of, as belonging at one time to a 'saviour'? Of
those, I think their whereabouts are all known. I notice in the write up
for the recently posted video in this thread, that the one therein was
mentioned as having been used for training in Canada.
That fits...
