England vice-captain Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the remainder of the summer with a serious shoulder injury sustained during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.

Pope had a scan on Monday which revealed the third serious shoulder injury of his career, although the previous two have been to his left shoulder.

This leaves Dan Lawrence, the Essex batsman who will join Surrey next season, in line to bat at No 3 in the third Ashes Test, which begins on Thursday at Headingley. England say they are not calling up a replacement to the squad, and there is no word on whether they would name another vice-captain for Ben Stokes.

Not to keen about Lawrence because his form has been patchy this season. It will interesting to see if his offspin gets a go.

My understanding is that once you've dislocated it once you're more likely to do it again (a guy I knew at school had done his multiple times)
I think there's surgery that can help but it involves tightening the rotator cuff and has drawbacks

Yes, but this was the first time - at least since he's been playing
county and Test cricket - that he's dislocated that shoulder. The
previous two dislocations were of the other shoulder, which he's already
had surgery for.
