Well English ball, English conditions, English crowds. losing the toss and playing with 10 men when the best spinner is out ....... definitely Australia has had the luck in this match

And England only got that close because Smith dropped a very simple catch ( in comparison to some of his efforts )

Throw in the rabid MCC members in the long room ..... what a stain on English Cricket . Hopefully we will replay the booing and other attacks for the next Ashes tour down under .
Would move the WACA test back to the old WACA

anyway....need more sleep

I will say this but , if Bairstow had runout say Marus with something similar to what Carey did I would be slightly pissed off too. I know Bairstow sort of tried but he missed the stumps.

As a keeper Bairstow looks terrible currently, he was regularly dropping balls that went straight through to him, which is normally a sign of complete lack of confidence
batting it's going to depend on whether he can get back to the form before the broken leg
and he'd have a better chance of that if he wasn't having to do so much work on his keeping
So far this series Bairstow has probably played the best innings of the 2 but Carey has contributed more with the bat overall

Fantastic test.
Stokes seems to excel when things look desperate.

Only 2 English batsmen scored 20+, which was very disappointing.
Bairstow deserves special condemnation for leaving his brain in the dressing room.

I'm a fan of bazball, but it should be tempered somewhat. And by that, I mean unleash it after facing 10 balls.
Playing rash shots before that means you really have no idea how the pitch is playing.

As for the Bairstow stumping...

Events like this cause great acrimony.
I'd put a fiver on England attempting a mankad in the next Test.
Just to make things worse.
(now made possible thanks to MCC's shit mankad laws).

What English batsmen were out playing rash shots early?
Crawley was looking to run a ball to fine leg
Pope beaten on the inside edge defending an inswinger
Root nicked a lifter he was trying to push to point
Brookes bowled defending an outswinger
Duckett and Stokes were out attacking short balls but they'd been getting away with it for a long time (and there wasn't much else being served up)

You could make a case for Robinson but you can't really expect a lot from your #9

Bairstow tried it on day 3

I think crucially their pace bowlers are about 5 mph quicker than ours.
Ashes series are usually won by the side with the faster bowlers.

cummins alluded to this in his post match interview, although he also
suggested it was a reaction to starcs catch being disallowed which was
surely nothing to do with england. however it does make it more likely
that this was a preconceived plan, and jonny was hoist by his own
petard.

it certainly would. plus stokes said he wouldnt want to win 'that way'

england would do better to concentrate on making more runs in their
1st inningses, stop dropping chances and cut out the no balls.

Not exactly helped by Archer out and Wood unfit (and Stone too). Which was part of my basis for 4-1 Aus.
