picked up an injury. Stokes was unable to bowl and was only able to bat
and field through sheer force of will. I think the only players in our
XI who were under 30 were Crawley, Duckett, Brook and Robinson. Bairstow
is out of form with both bat and gloves, our top three is flaky
(regardless of whether Brook or Moeen bats there), and even Root is
struggling both with the bat and in the slips.

I think the England squad was originally picked for the first two Tests,
so there was no inference that he wouldn't play after that. I think they
subsequently picked a squad for the rest of the series, but IIRC it was
identical to that for the first two Tests apart from Pope perforce no
longer being in it.
