What tradition was changed after that game?

don't know if he captained them.

I should have realised that "play for his country at cricket" needn't
necessarily mean England.

With his splendid middle names, Noel Cantwell should really have been a
West Indian, where they seem to make a thing of producing cricketers
with impressive names (Garfield St Aubrun Sobers, to give just one
example).

I looked him up on CricketArchive. He played about a dozen games for
Ireland, including one that had first-class status: Scotland v Ireland
in 1956. The match was drawn. Cantwell scored 31 and 17* and took 0-13
in Scotland's first innings. Scotland 411-6d and 54-1d; Ireland 276 (in
164 overs!) and 66-4.

I could be wrong, I can't find anything to confirm.
The anthem used to be played at the end of the FA cup match after the
presentation. In 1963 Cantwell or someone was hoisted into the air in
celebration whilst the anthem was being played, this resulted in the
order of service being adjusted to have the anthem at the beginning of
future FA cup finals instead.

That sounds plausible.
