Exchanged this afternoon, completion tomorrow!

When I first moved into my flat I gave away all my gardening tools, steps,
ladders etc.

Guess what I need to buy now...........

It's a curious thing but every single house we've bought came with a ladder of
some sort left by the previous owner.
I still have most of them, includung the very first wooden stepladder. Which
was of indeterminate age back in 1971, but still very serviceable now.

It may be because they're difficult to transport, I've ordered a
collapsible one, hope it only collapses to order!

I remember my dad doing some maintenance on a three storey Victorian house
which needed the wooden triple 15 ladder, weighed a ton. While setting it
up we dropped it across the neighbours' gardens. We got it sorted and by
the time he got to the top the quick setting cement had set, learned a few
new words that day :-)

On the subject of gardening tools, its probably a bit too far from you
but Bridport market days usually have a good selection of old but still
very usable tools. It may be worth checking your local markets/charity
shops etc for good used tools rather than buying all new.

I'm still using a c70+ year old hoe that was originally used on the farm.
Its much older than me.

The only putty knife I have ever owned was bought by my father to do a
decorating job with the LCC some time around 1925 - I was using it
earlier today.

Looking back, the most curious thing about it was that he never used it
for applying putty. He would use either a small pointing trowel or a
wood chisel and get a perfect finish in about 20 seconds.

Still on its originals. The hoe blade is very worn down though.
