Does he act as well, I've not heard that he does? I only know of him as
a TV presenter on historical topics.

Erm... the emails I have can be ordered/viewed by thread 'tree'. Just a
matter of having a new+email program like !Pluto that knows how to do this
from the headers, etc.

Oh my goodness a Risc OS man!

My (Windows) email app can sort by conversation but it uses the "Subject"
to sort which leads to some interesting results. Does !Pluto use Subject
or is it more intelligent?

Indeed, but that wouldn't help the person who has just joined an
email conversation and so does not have the preceding emails.
In Usenet News, preceding articles are available on the server;
that isn't the case in email, hence the need for full quoting.

It allows 'status', 'subject', 'score', or 'subject'. IIRC 'score' lets you
specify some alternative search method, but I've not used it.

In general, !Pluto treats emails and news in much the same way. You can set
up how they are seperated into boxes, listed, etc. Have external boxes for
old stuff. It also allows quasi-regex searches to create a new list you can
the view, organised by various ways, inc the above. Such sublists can be
searched and organised via what's in the headers as well as the body text.
In effect it is a text and file database that can be used to write / read /
send / get / store emails and newsitems. :-)

I've gone on using RISC OS because it has a natty desktop/windowing system
and excellent apps like !Pluto, !TechWriter [1], etc. Although FWIW I use
Linux for 'grunt' computing.[2] Stopped using Windows decades for anything
long ago as I always found it a PITA.

[1] Truly superb technical document processor. Results as good as TeX, but
far easier to use. Brilliant if you need to include eye-watering maths
expressions as well as graphics. Paid-for commercial program still being
developed.

[2] e.g. currently work on processing a > 2GB data file made during the
1973 Solar Eclipse by and instrument flown on Concorde 001. But that said,
I then turn the results into graphs, and documents/webpages using RO and
!TechWriter. Simply easier that way. :-)
