I have recently acquired Office 365. I am having problems with the
watermark function in Word. The text overwrites the watermark instead
of a transparent watermark. I have tried the four headed arrow,
WorkArt / Format and Fill Colours but nothing seems to work. Any
ideas?

1TB of cloud storage, with the ability to rewind in time if you get hit
with something nasty, for around £60/year is very good value for offsite
backup. I consider the Office apps as extras thrown in for free.

Because they aren't nearly as compatible as people claim they are.

Not sure what you are getting at. What do you expect the text to do?
It's not a facility that I use but I've just tried inserting a
watermark into a document and it looks ok to me.
If it's not working as you expect then I'd expect it to be affecting
hundreds if not thousands of others and you might be better Googling
for an answer, even if you only find that no one else knows what the
answer is either. The help has several articles on different aspects
of watermarks, including a link to a Microsoft hosted discussion on
the subject.

I expect the text to remain in its existing font with the watermark
superimposed in a translucent font - same as if I used my quill pen on
watermarked paper from Harrods.

Can you see the whole watermark or just the parts where there is no
text?

Where do you think I got the information about he four headed arrow,
WorkArt / Format and Fill Colours?

Like changing the registry keys. No thanks. I just wanted to know if
someone had found an easy solution.

If you used your quill pen, the ink would be on top of the
watermark, just as you are experiencing.

Rather than me pasting lots of links, simply Google for "How to
Bring Watermark to the Front in Word"

Not quite. If you held the paper up to the light you would see the
watermark (as with a bank note). Word is not achieving this.

Okay, I'll try again. I did try quite a bit of searching and (1) the
instructions did not appear to correspond with my version of Word, and
(2) some of it was horrendously complicated involving the registry
when there ought to be a simple setting in Word.

I can certainly see the grey background watermark text within the glyphs of the
document, e.g. inside a letter O. Are you not seeing this? Are you using one of
the inbuilt text watermarks, one from Office.com or a custom one?

Spot on. When a parish councilor I had to insist that our clerk stopped using
Libre Office as I was fed up receiving tables that failed to display properly,
broken numbering and other nastiest. And the fact that the doc. always arrived
as Letter size.

LO is fine for light domestic use, and I always have an up-to-date copy
installed, but that's as far as it goes.

I got it (Microsoft Office) because it was compatible with what I was
used to at work and have stuck with it ever since.

Is the text in some sort of panel, with a white background rather than a
transparent one, which might obscure the watermark?
