Hope not hope you have more important things to think off than if soup
has posted or not .
Computer went belly up had used a passord manager so ALL (just
imagine EVERYTHING that used a password I had to re-register)that type
of information was lost (there's a message in there somewhere).
Now I am using an old computer of my son's (not as fast as I hoped
but not frustratingly so).After a few false starts ( L O N G story )
had to re-register with ES then had to download and... longer story
short took me ages to get back to day one.

Aside :- I had forgotten just how different Win(later numbers)[1] was to
setup than XP

Re Passwords. SWMBO has a quite smart-looking notebook[1] and she keeps
a (handwritten) list of all her passwords etc. in there.

I was amused, but it doesn't crash or emit magic smoke.

I use s given set of characters in most of my passwords -
and combine them with unique characters for each password.
When I record my list of logins - I replace the set characters
with " <usual> " .
eg if my common set is z1y2x3 and my ebay password was
z1y2x3_EBAY I would write it as <usual>_EBAY
z1y2x3_Amazon recorded as <usual>_Amazon
Works for me.

But she can lose the thing under the pile of %^&* she surrounds herself

P.S. That [1] was supposed to point to a line which said a proper

I have numerous passwords that I record under a boring title in 'my
docs' as 'hints' that I will understand, but nobody else will, not even
close family.

However after what our Rob's Lesley has had to go through after he
suddenly left us for Ye Great Shedd in ye sky, trying to access his
numerous business accounts and fend off the tax man, and not having a
clue as to what his passwords were, I'm wondering whether it might be
pertinent to send a list of them to messen via recorded delivery and
leave it unopened with a power of attorney?

Plus when people hack your computer there is no password manager to
harvest. If your house gets broken into you usually have more to worry
about than having all your passwords in plain sight (put notebook in a
drawer perhaps?).

I use my own program to generate complex passwords. They are stored in a
spreadsheet. It was one of my first python programs.

import sys

import pyperclip
import string
import secrets

characters = string.ascii_letters + string.digits + string.punctuation + string.ascii_letters
pw = str(secrets.choice(string.ascii_letters))
#First character always alphabetic

Loops = (secrets.randbelow(3) +2) * 8

#print(Loops)

for x in range(1,Loops):
#Now add another 8
pw = pw + str(secrets.choice(characters))
pyperclip.copy(pw)
#Clipboard now contains a password candidate
print(pw)
exit(0)

Good idea, but every time you add some new 'account', or have to change
a password due to yet another data breach...

Yeah. That's a point.

Then I found this:-

https://digilegal.co.uk/logins-passwords-your-will/

So presumably any solicitor could provide this service online?
