The promble is that there are too many heffalumps there, and not enough
predators, so the only things that control their numbers are starvation
and humans.

Poachers and trophy hunters are the only major predators they have,
though some very young ones can be killed by crocodiles and big packs of
wild dogs, as long as mum isn;t too vigilant.

As they need vegetation to survive,just as hoomans do, and no matter how
cute some think they are, the choice is between hoomans and heffalumps
living in the area. Even hoomans that eat animals feed them on the
vegetation that heffalumps need.

Quite, the essential nature of the world is competition for
resources. If we don't compete something else will use the resources, if we
do compete something (probably many somethings) will suffer because we're
*very* good at competing. We appear to be learning that to win outright is
to lose really badly but the appropriate balance (there's no right or
wrong really) and the means to achieve and maintain it are far from clear,
we'll get the hang of it eventually - maybe.

Hopefully before we render the planet uninhabitable by us. If we die
out, and Malthus' rules will determine how many of us survive long term,
it will recover nicely.

As a lesson in what will happen when we do die out, have a look at how
nature has begun to restore the area round Chernobyl to its natural
state. After nearly 40 years, it is falling apart nicely.

lead to more heffalumps and fewer gazelles. Fewer gazelles leads to
fewer lions as well as more heffalumps. Breed and protect gazelles to
feed hoomans and you get fewer heffalumps. The lions will sort
themselves out. They think hoomans and their tame hanimules is tasty,
but tend to get annoyed and have learned that their families fight back
if you eats 'em.

Meanwhile, the dung beetles, who probably outweigh the rest of us all
put together, *love* heffalump poo. They are also good at turning it
into stuff wot helps grass grow as well as more dung beetles. <Straight
face>

I usd to own a field near a fairsized town which was rentd by a dodgy
circus. Cash, until officials started to arrive,

"You need a permit to do that, sign here and here, and so much to pay
for looking for the permit.''

Far as I know, all the local circuses keep no animals any more, too much
bother getting permits. One old circus man said that somewhere in the
green isle there is an elephants graveyard, with rough ground, where the
elephans were buried.

We had callers for years later from people who wanted elephant poo.

Over here we have The Wild Animals in Circuses Act 2019

An Act to make provision to prohibit
the use of wild animals in travelling circuses.

It doesn't say whether it also applies to livid animals ...
