But its going to take two years to build. Even Emley tower didn't take
that long!! This one is going to be a lattice mast - and the temp they
built at Emley whilst the tower aerials were change didn't even take six
months!

I said at the start that I wondered if they would re-purpose the 'temp'
mast at Emley and use it at Bilsdale Major?

I don't think it's man enough, very different design  and support
arrangements if you compare the planning drawings for both.

Peterborough replacement was an 18 month project, and there they didn't
need to worry about any newts etc

Shirley, that is standard time-planning in any construction job?

"They want it inside 18 months."

"Yeah well - it's going to take two years. Tell 'em it'll take 18
months, plus a bit for unforeseens -- say 19 months, tops."

Peterborough was a complete rebuild, tower, buildings, access, security
etc etc.

The 'two years' was where I saw the report (thank you BBC!) - perhaps
poor journalistic maths?

Reminds me of the 1970s' public meeting into a tv relay for one of the

It's given as a direct quote from "North York Moors National Park

I suspect it is not referring to specifically Bilsdale, more likely the
whole North Yorkshire Moors.

So I do hope designers were watching the weather over the last few days.
If they are just replacing it how come they need planning permission?

There always people wanting to have an aerial site for their services

So have they given up on the tubular guyed masts now? I mean, surely with
modern materials they could be built more robustly.

that isn't an exact replica does.

I think they are considered inherently too unstable today. About half a
dozen in Europe have collapsed or been fatally damaged over the last few
decades,

After the Hoogersmilde fire and collapse in The Netherlands about 10
years ago, apparently the Dutch have banned to use of any 'active'
equipment at height in the remaining tubular masts.

Radio services are/were going to be moved to the new Bilsdale tower next
Tuesday 16th, with local services (BBC Tees) on 95.0 MHz. The temporary
transmitters at Eston Nab (95.0 MHz) and Darlington (104.0 MHz) will be
closed.

These changes appear to be delayed, maybe due to bad weather: "***This
work has been postponed until further notice***"

Uli

The antennas and feeders will already be in place if the switch on was
to be this Tuesday. Therefore I doubt the hold up is weather related

For whatever reason, the delay is just one week, and the same link as
above indicates that the switch is going to happen tomorrow.

Since I am updating the database at fmlist.org: Does anyone know which
of the two DTV panels planned at 300 m and 275 m are used for the PSB
and COM multiplexes? I am just guessing that the PSB services (100 kW)
come from the lower panels and COM (50 kW) from the upper ones. There
are pictures of the two DTV antenna sections at
