Ah, I was wonder which of the nameless SID channels it was. I'll have a look
in 15 mins when my tuner is not being used for a recording.

The programming doesn't look very interesting to me.
Quite a lot of rather sensational stuff compared to say CNN or CNBC.

Yes sorry, I should have given the SID too.

Here's a short recording: https://youtu.be/yMB07X9Hh5w

By heck, 30-to-25 fps conversion has improved a lot since the days of
analogue TV when you used to see US TV reports shown on UK news bulletins.

At one stage I got a lot of glitches, and my receiver didn't flagging any
errors so I wonder whether it was errors in reception of the signal from the
US and rebroadcasting it to Astra 28.2.

Yes motion looks nice and smooth.

Could be, or maybe bitrate mismatch causing corrupted or dropped data.

I sometimes get something like that on one of the other HD foreign
channels, not sure which one. It's when there is a sudden big scene
change like a cut from one view to another, it causes pixelation like an
I-frame was truncated or dropped.

I left it running for a few hours and didn't notice any issues, I was listening
more than watching though.

I've just had it drop out altogether several times: playing the channel
in VLC on my PC, I can see blocks of data still being reported on Tools
| Codec | Statistics with no lost, dropped or discarded frames, but
black screen and no sound. Then normal service is resumed - and then
lost again.

That's why they have a testing phase ;-)

They are certainly getting their moneysworth out of the caption
generator and screen-animation software - like a some who's just
discovered how many fonts they've found in MS Word and who is determined
to use as many of them as possible in the same document.

i wonder if the channel's remit is somewhat akin to GB News (with or
without political bias) in that they are more about discussion and
opinions than hard news.

It seems like "NBC news now" is different from "NBC news"

I presume we're getting trailers in the slots that other viewers are getting
adverts?

Do we need yet more biased news. I think news has had its day, many many
people now avoid news, they really want more local news, not just more doom
and gloom and biased views on the way the world is run.

It seems rather a tautologous name for a news channel. Unless they're
intending to also launch an "NBC News From Last Year" channel?

I think what they want is 'news' which confirms their own bias.
Facebook is great for that if you just stick to the groups you agree
with. Bit of a sadly narrow world, though.

Seems a bit better now.

At the weekend there seemed to be a lot of true crime type stuff.
