I’ve been trying to use our Apple TV box with my Benq computer monitor
plugged in to its HDMI socket.

Instead of the normal boot up, all I get is a screen about Airplay. None
of the remote buttons will bring up any menus, streaming options etc.

If I try to AirPlay Netflix from my iPad, it tells me to use the app on the
box!

The Apple TV box works perfectly with our TV.

Any thoughts? (Yes, the remote is charged up! ) ;-)

Which generation Apple TV is it?

Looking around this seems to be

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7334531

"To get rid of the Conference Room banner, press the Menu button on the
remote twice. You will end up on the normal Apple TV Home screen."

If that's not it, then there are a million links on google for the query
"apple tv stuck on airplay screen".
"how to get apple tv out of conference mode"

Apple is meant to have exemplary customer support for moments like this?

Is the Apple box set for 4K output and is the Benq HDMI socket HDCP 2.2
compliant?

Box seems to be on the fritz. Not working properly with our TV either.

Re-pairing the remote seemed to restore operation but it doesn’t seem to
have remembered any passwords and I have to keep re-pairing it with my
Wi-Fi.

Failing (so far) to getting it working long enough to do a software update
(just in case that is the problem).

Oddly, it’s been perfectly reliable up till now (although we use it
relatively rarely) and the problems only surfaced when I tried to use it
with my computer monitor.

Not a 4K box. Seems to be having other problems now. May have to phone
Apple.

Managed to get it up and running long enough to enter the system menu and
do a full reset. That seems to have sorted it.
