The dangers of reversing out into a main road.

A van driver has been arrested following a 'hit and run' near Holderness Road.

A cyclist suffered multiple injuries after being hit in East Park Avenue on Saturday morning.

The driver of a white Ford transit van is alleged to have hit the cyclist at 10am, close to Woodford Leisure Centre.

He was reported to have reversed his van out of East Park Avenue onto Holderness Road and hit the cyclist while attempting to do so.

He then left the scene of the collision, leaving the cyclist with multiple injuries.

The cyclist was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary at 10:30am.

After the accident, a portion of Holderness Road was closed off, leading to heavy gridlock traffic.

One driver said it took her 20 minutes to get through.

Buses also had to reroute as a result of the accident.

In a post, Stagecoach said: "Due to an RTC, Holderness Rd services heading outbound/east are being diverted via Summergangs Rd, James Reckitt Ave & Ings Rd. Inbound are currently unaffected."

The police are looking for witnesses who saw the accident or have CCTV and or dashcam footage to come forward.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to East Park Avenue in Hull on Saturday, September 25, at approximately 10.10am, following a collision with a white Ford transit van and a cyclist.

"The van is reported to have reversed out of East Park Avenue onto Holderness Road, hitting the cyclist and then left the scene of the collision.

"The cyclist sustained multiple injuries and has been taken to hospital. Following enquiries, the driver of the van is now in custody.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident that could assist us with our enquiries, including any CCTV or dashcam footage to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 198 of September 25."
