A cyclist has died following a hit and run involving a vehicle in Cranleigh this evening (September 27).

The collision took place at around 6.05pm in Horsham Road, and the driver of a white vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

The cyclist, a 77-year-old man, was treated by paramedics at the scene, but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from Surrey Police.

Horsham Road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Surrey Police is now trying to track down the driver of the white vehicle after they failed to stop following the crash.

In a statement on Tuesday (September 28), the force said: "We are still trying to trace the driver of a vehicle involved in a collision which resulted in the death of a cyclist in Cranleigh last night (September 27).

"A witness has described the vehicle as a small white car and enquiries remain ongoing to identify and locate the driver who failed to stop following the collision."

Officers are asking anyone with any information to come forward.

Surrey Police said: "If you witnessed the incident, or you have any information which could help us trace the driver of the vehicle involved, please DM us as a matter of urgency quoting reference PR/P21208623."
