A MAN has been arrested over the death of dad-of-four Carl Eland.

Carl, from the North Ormesby area of Middlesbrough, died after he and a 24-year-old woman were hit by a white Vauxhall Insignia as they cycled along Homerton Road/Gribdale Road on Saturday, August 21.

A 20-year-old man has now been charged with murder and with section 18 assault.

The only adequate and just sentence for murder (assuming guilt and a
conviction, which at this stage, none of us do, or should do) is to be

Murder usually attracts a life sentence tariff, however. He doesn't appear to have been charged with motoring offences, the car must have been seen as a deadly weapon and not just a vehicle.

Exactly the point. Our jury system is not perfect but at least you can let a wrongly convicted person out of prison.
I wonder if Nugents would be prepared to put a .50 cal round through the head of a convicted murderer point blank and get covered in blood, brains, bone and cerebral spinal fluid.

I am glad that you mentioned the USA, which is a country which has the death penalty available and also one of the highest murder rates in the world. Some deterrent that is. And of course, the UK still had hanging when the Moors Murderers were at large - didn't stop them.
