There a moderately interesting video of the presentation to local
residents. The bit that struck me was that the piling is going to be done
with relatively simple plant, none of the fancy multi million pound high
output trains that didn’t go so well elsewhere.

This firm seem to be doing the bulk of the work

So is electrification to Nottingham is going ahead or is it just wishful
thinking? If so when did it get approval?

It's going ahead. I think, iirc, there are 17 contracts going out for the
electrification, it is all divided into roughly 10 -20 mile sections,
with a 1.5 mile section at Sheffield being the smallest.
The bridges south of Leicester have all been cleared and modified in the
original phase, the London Road bridge at Leicester is a very low one,
which is not being wired, but probably a conductor rail will be fitted,
like in the Severn Tunnel and other places.

Presumably they won't be doing anything sensible, such as connecting the
relatively short distance from Sheffield to South Kirkby (for Wakefield) or
Doncaster?
