Took the car in this morning as brakes were binding. Garage did a full
check of the car and identified some extra work - number plate
delaminating (which I knew about) and offside and near side rear trailing
arms needed some work. Total cost all in of just under £1000....except
it seems I have the benefit of a 10 year/100000miles warranty on the car
so only a new number plate to pay for!

I had thought of changing the car next year but now I think I will be
hanging onto it until the warranty is close to/expires.

Thank you Toyota

Don't they make their money up forcing your to have it serviced each
year by a Toyota dealership?

Their prices are sufficiently close to those charged by local independent
garages (around here anyway) that its not worth bothering about. Plus the
little extras that they give that the locals cannot - pick up and drop
off or 'no strings' courtesy car for example.

That would be a breach of competition law. You can have your car serviced
where you like provided (a) you have to take it to a franchised dealer for
warranty repairs and (b if you use an independent who screws it up then
it's not up to the manufacturer to put right.

Basically true. But when you want to sell on the car, the franchised
dealer stamps in the service log tend to attract potential buyers who
would be less impressed with independents.

It's completely true I promise, it used to be my bread and butter job :-)

I would always recommend using the franchised network for the reasons you
give.
