Just been helping my neighbour change rear disks and pads
on a C3 Picasso. Typical Peugeot/Citoen, the rear disks have
sealed bearing inside the disks and you cannot buy the
disks on their own (probably need pressing out).

£60 each *trade* price, and those were after market too. !.

Local Pug dealer wanted £540 to do the job.

That's one car removed from my buying list, but the real
alarm is that Citroen/Pug now own Vauxhall/Opel and the
new Astra looks like it could be a Cit/Pug rebadged job.

I'll keep my Astra H for as along as possible.

Andrew

Very wise. I had a couple of older ones that were little trouble, and I
think my son's is an H.

They did the same with drums as well. Utter twats. It saves them money
as they only make one part and not 2 but it costs the owners later on.
But as the first owner never finds these hidden costs of ownership they
don't get punished by reduced sales. Even in deprecation it becomes a
small penalty as it's mainly 3rd or 4th owner that gets to pay.

I removed PSA from my buying list after a Citroen BX blew up it's
ignition. Dealer said "they do that sir!". Told me that they didn't know
if the electronic unit failed and blew the coil or coil failed and blew
the electronics but they both fail at the same time. It was so common
that there after market parts available. Meanwhile Japanese motors went
to the scrapyards electrically fully functional on the original equipment.

PSA also used rust for wiring. Copper plated steel. The steel rusted and
the copper plate turned green. Come to change a bulb and the wire fell
apart. So a simple bulb change became a wiring job.

But at least it will hold a line going round a bend.

And invented the guillotine which works a lot better
than chopping people's head off with an axe.

And did nukes far better than anyone else.

And the airbuses work pretty well too.

Those buggers claim to have invented everything.

Almost as bad as the Poles.

They did invent the haggis and some very decent single
malt scotch but weren't even first with cross dressing.

Au contraire!

SECAM actually stands for Systeme Electronique couleur avec memoir or
Sequential Color and Memory.

SECAM is a TV broadcast system invented by French engineer Henri de
France and his team attached to Compagnie Française de Télévision.

The whole idea behind SECAM was to rectify the shortcomings of NTSC
developed by the USA.

That could be why SECAM has been jokingly called System Essentially
Contrary to American Method.

NTSC, incidentally, is often called Never Twice the Same Colour instead
of National Television Standards Committee

PAL wasn’t spared either – from Peace At Last, to Picture Always Lousy,
instead of Phase Alternate Line.

Also, Some countries are still using the SECAM system while waiting to
switch to digital broadcasting. (!)

It was what appeared to be a good quality picture at 819 lines - I saw a
demo set years ago at a Barco monitor workshop.

In theory, 625 line PAL TV should also take up an enormous amount of
spectrum space, but for broadcast purposes it was squeezed in to the
8MHZ channel spaces and I believe that only 5.5MHZ was allocated to the
video.

Actually it used a shade over 6MHz

And no it shouldn't have used 'an enormous amount of spectrum space'

Line scan is ~ 16kHz, a 500 'pixel' line would be 8MHz.

ISTR about 10Hz for the 819 system. But is is 50 years since I worked with
it.. yes, we had a caption scanner at TVC which ran on 819 and we had a
lovely HD monitor.
