Anyone had any similar experience, or heard of it happening?

All buttons on the remote and on the TV itself become unresponsive,
except for the power button on the TV, and then the lag is 30
seconds or so. Very strange, very frustrating.

If the TV's buttons don't work, it must have locked up and you have no
idea what the Freeview box is doing - probably working normally. If
there is 30 seconds between pressing the power button and the TV
switching off, it's too smart for its own good. The only thing you can
do is switch it off at the mains and switch on again.

It's dead, Jim....

Maybe the caps have cooked, busy CPU loses power then crashes, and
eventually it all restarts.

Have an off-tuned AM radio placed nearby and have a listen to the sound
of the interference pattern as it changes.

Or look for the bulging caps in the power supply.

Yes, Goodman's Smart Talk used to do this a lot and also lose AD and
splutter the voice. In my view all classic signs of the processor being too
slow or the system running out of memory. Even my latest Samsung is not
immune to spluttering, taking a long time to resolve a channel or muttering
gibberish on occasion.

Yes the problems with the good old TVonics boxes were power supply related.
These were switch mode and even when good chucked out a lot of dross. They
also like many devices had remote controls that gradually died as the
conductive layer under the buttons dried out and fell into the well the
button pushed into. Also those with hard drives corrupted their drives due
to the psu issues.
When will people realise that scrimping on important components gets them a
bad name.

It's a Freeview TV, no separate box, and no recording functionality or
anything like that. Only happens on some channels, GB News being
one, I'm not sure which other as the TV owner didn't take note.

Seems that most things are now. All I want is 4 channels, nicam
stereo, and Teletext.

GB News is one of the channels but the other is unknown as yet
because the telly's owner/operator didn't take note. The only thing
I could think to do was retune the TVs. We'll see what happens.

I have seen very little of it to be honest, and I am all for people having their
own "thing" but the few times I've tuned in, I can't get over the basicness of
it (I mean the way that language is nearly used to spread the current talking
head's opinion).

Frankly it amazes me that more people don't understand that "News" channels
are nothing of the sort; they are opinion channels with headlines every
half-hour or so. Some opinions may be supported with sources or statistics, and
some opinions may be little more than a venting of the spleen, but opinions they
are.

More accurate to regard them as Supposition & Conjecture channels ;)
