When I was still boating I was always in a hurry to get away from
obvious magnet fishers. Always amusing if they got their magnet stuck on
a steel hull.

As magnets become more powerful, magnet fishing becomes more and more
worrying. If the magnet tugged on the ring pull of a discarded grenade
there could be a very nasty incident. A stuck mechanical bomb detonator
could be unstuck by the concussion of a powerful magnet.

How about pulling the drain plug? Probably not likely as the plug is
quite big and a winch would probably be required to overcome the water
pressure.

Disturbing most vintage ordnance looks dangerous. This is from:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Richard_Montgomery
"The Ministry of Defence (MoD) warned that the collapse of a mast could detonate ordnance,
and Royal Navy specialists would need to remove them safely. In December 2021 it was
reported that a contractor supported by the Navy would remove the
ship's masts, starting in June 2022."

Thanks for the heads up. I thunk I might go and visit my son for an
extended vacation, in Cambridge. For how long?

Maybe better still my brother in Notts or sister (maybe not) in
Inverness.

Her cargo included white phosphorous shells, so not only is a giant Navy
Lark whizz bang in the offing, but also a nasty poisonous cloud.
Hopefully there were no chemical weapons on board. We might not be told.
