It's very likely that Michael Green won't be Transport Secretary for much
longer, so which Truss supporter will get the job? The Telegraph suggests
that Kemi Badenoch is hs likely replacement.

We will know in a fortnight, everyone is playing fantasy cabinets at the

True. Truss has a lot of supporters who are expecting top jobs, plus she
may want to show magnanimity to some of Sunak's less vocal backers (such as
Shapps). It seems that her top cabinet members (Kwasi Kwarteng, Suella
Braverman and James Cleverly) have been selected and are preparing to take
over, but the middle ranking members aren't known for sure yet. It seems
unlikely that many cabinet members will keep their current jobs.

Lets hope she keeps Ben Wallace in defense. He seems to have been one of the
better (well, less clueless) defense secretaries in recent years. As for
the rest, it'll probably be an identikit bunch of useless sychophants.

Shame Tugendhat didn't get a chance to be PM but obviously didn't glad hand
enough people so we get another 3rd rater.

Yes, it seems very likely he'll keep that job.

> As for the rest, it'll probably be an identikit bunch of useless sychophants.

Let's hope she doesn't just appoint people who are loyal but won't outshine
her, as Boris did.

He has no government experience at all, so wasn't a serious contender. But
he's likely to join the government, probably as a junior minister in the
Foreign Office, assisting Cleverly.

The Tory leadership election has split the Tory party asunder. If Truss
becomes PM and leader, which looking very likely. I think she's last
about six months. She hasn't got the calibre or expertise to govern
the country. By Spring 2023 the Tory party will be consumed with
dissent between the one nation Tories and the Thatcherites, the one
nation Tories will vote with the Labour MPs for a no confidence in the
government, and a general election will happen in the Spring of 2023. I
can dream!

But then, neither did her immediate predecessors.

They will hang on until the last possible moment, so the next general
election will be in November or December 2024. In the absence of another
Falklands War, Truss's Thatcher-like policies will have proved so
disastrous and unpopular that they will not dare risk an early election.
She may even be dumped by the "Boris was Great" lobby.

Unfortunately, Labour will fail to win that election, and Starmer will
also be dumped -- hopefully not to be replaced by some Corbyn-like loser.

No mention of who might be Chief of Staff, although was someone else
appointed after "two jobs" Steve Barclay was moved to Health Secretary?

Later... it seems the previous deputy is currently a caretaker.

They've been split for well over 30 years, but that hasn't stopped them being in government for more than half of that
time. The rebels certainly won't bring down their own government.

Of course, it's possible that Truss herself will opt for an early election in Spring 2023, while her temporary honeymoon
lasts.

Yes, a hung parliament would be the most likely result if the election is in late 2024.

Which is another problem for Starmer as he has precipitately ruled out
taking part in a coalition.

If neither Conservative nor Labour has a majority, one of them can reach
the magic number by coalescing(?) with sufficient minorities. One risk
is a joint Labour and SNP administration, though their intense rivalry
in Scotland might save the UK from such a disaster.

To be fair neither did Blair or Cameron. Sometimes you need someone fresh
to shake things up a bit.

Its not doing the country any favours either given the problems we've got.
If Boris was a hands on PM it wouldn't matter, he could just keep things
ticking over until the vote but clearly he gives even less of a toss than
before he resigned.

If the Tories had any interest in the UK rather than their own party they'd
have cut short this idiotic circus and had the vote weeks ago.

Dream about what though? Labour are also full of incompetants and lightweights.
Ditto the lib dems. There's no one fit to govern in westminster IMO.

More than likely.

Hopefully she may move away from the full Thatcher. Unfortunately some
politicians don't seem to realise policies were of their time. Thatcherism
was the right thing at the right time in the early 80s but wasn't right for
the 90s - despite Major keeping it on life support and privatising the
railways - and certainly isn't in the 2020s.

>She may even be dumped by the "Boris was Great" lobby.

I've heard on a couple of radio stations that the Tory unwashed are not
happy Boris was kicked out so you never know.

>Unfortunately, Labour will fail to win that election, and Starmer will

Rayner seems fairly clued up if a bit left for me. Not sure if I could put
up with hearing that voice very often though.

That would have no legitimacy outside of Scotland so if they tried it I suspect
Labour would be writing their own suicide note.

They wouldn't form a formal coalition or even have a formal agreement. But
there would be an informal agreement by the minor parties to support a
minority Labour government on key votes and not vote against it even when
they don't actively support a bill. In return, Labour would have to give
those parties some of their key demands.

They had both been leaders of the opposition for several years before
becoming PM. That taught them a lot about government. But when a new leader
takes over and immediately becomes PM, it's essential that they've had
senior cabinet experience. And Truss is in fact the most experienced
cabinet minister in parliament. So she's actually quite well qualified.

Yes, but I think that was a formal agreement. I don't think any of the
parties want an on-the-record formal agreement this time.
